Summer Camp

From my hometown rag, The Kerrville Daily Times

Local officials say they were uninformed about “several hundred” unaccompanied migrant children who were temporarily housed at area camps before a federal shelter was opened at Lackland Air Force Base.

Exactly how many and where they stayed and for how long is not immediately clear, and local authorities were not informed about the housing arrangements through the federal Office of Refugee Resettlement until they found out almost by accident. Kerr County Sheriff Rusty Hierholzer said he learned about it only because a few sheriff’s deputies had requested to work security for the Texas Department of Public Safety during off-duty hours.

Having some of the nicest places to send your kid for the summer, we are considered the summer camp capital of Texas. Senators kids are known to go to one of the more famous ones, Camp Mystic. You pay a fucking arm and a leg to get rid of your kid for a few weeks, I bet the parents are just thrilled to hear that little Johnny will be sleeping in the same bunk little Jorge, with the swine flu, scabies and lice did, for free.

Holy Crap!!! My kids went to Kerrville-area camps, and later were counselors at one of them.

How the hell could they keep that quiet? Seems like someone who works at one of the camps would have spoken out.

I've been spending a lot of time in Bandera. I had no idea you were so close. Illegal immigration affects all of us here in Texas, all border states, and the US. The diseases they are bringing across will cause problems as well, not to mention the fact that all these kids will be require to attend school...with yours and my kids!

The ones at Ft. Sill, in Lawton, OK, were supposed to be gone by Oct. 15. It's been extended to January 24. Wonder how long the next extension will be. - Tina
